In this course you will learn how to make your own ceramic tableware set on our 12 weeks wheel throwing course. Halfway into the course, we will be glazing your first pieces to gain insight of our studio glazes and ways of layering glazes in many combinations.
You will be guided to throw thinner and with more even walls, as well as throwing shapes that are new and challenging. You will have a unique chance to fully immerse yourself in the practice of wheel throwing, guided by our experienced teacher.
For each student we are focusing on strengthening and refining their wheel throwing foundations. We will practice making cylinders, bowls and plates and techniques for making identical pieces. Although the course is focused on learning rather than making pieces, you will be able to keep between 12-14 of the pieces you make.
We will spend the first day on getting warmed up and practicing some of the basics to get started on your new tableware designs.
Outcome: In this course you will have a chance to perfect your throwing skills: from practicing throwing bowls, plates and cups, water jugs, small table vase as well as making a tea pot and/or ceramic lidded jars.
Who is the course right for? This course is right for you if:
- You are on a good path centering your own clay - we will practise this in our first session, so no worries
- You have wheel-throwing foundations at basic level and wish to perfect your skills
- You want to practice throwing better, thinner, more regular, and same size pieces
We offer free use of our wide studio selection of tools throughout your course.
Your finished pieces can be picked up at the studio within 2-3 weeks after finishing the course.
Your booking can get refunded within 24 hours of purchase. After this period, your booking is binding, even if you miss one or more days of the course. If a class is cancelled by Reykjavik Clay, you will receive a voucher for a future course. It is not possible to switch course once booked. Please note that no refunds are given beyond the initial 24-hour window.
